To Sum up e-communication class

First of all, and without acting as a teacher's pet, I'd like to thank "Monsieur Spaulding" because thanks to his class I discovered Podcasts (I'm getting a little crazy over them)..between every "Lost" episode I listen to ABC's Lost podcast, they interview the actors, give us some tips (but not so much) on the show's intrigue..
Besides my private podcast revolution (and showing them off), I found very interesting giving the class usefull links like wikipedia (i must be the only one who wasn't aware of it), but also recommandations concerning how to promote an event using e-communications. The United States being ahead of France concerning technologies I understand better their way of using the web....thanks a lot Bob and I hope to see you soon !

Level 4 The issue of Ripping

Ripping is legal when you rip your own cds, so this means you have previously bought the cd and that you don't share it on the Internet. You only use the music for yourself on your computer or walkman. You can also rip your DVD's but only watch them on your computer, and not share it to download.
BUT it's so temptating to just clic on a file you can get for free and listen to your favorite music only 2 seconds after thinking about it ! That's why many record companies have put tracks online that can be downloaded legally after paying for them of course.
But why should we buy for just one track ? Nobody would threaten people who taped songs on the radio in the 80 s ?
I think it's a bug issue because record compagnies were frustrated because they couldn't earn money thrue on the web. The CD industry is increasing since napter appeards. Most "downloaders" discover new artists thrue those plateforms of illegal music and then go to buy the real cd because most of the time the sound is disappointing and nothing will remplace a booklet and a cristal clear sound. Of course some people are Pirates and live from a parallele industry, but that exists in any industry doesn't it ?

Level 3 : Monetize an Internet model

"Monetize an Internet model" means to convert into money the activity of an internet site, or to earn money thrue adds on your site, podcast, blog...

A clever way to earn money on the internet would be to create a podcast and to get sponsored by big brands. For instance, if I had to create a podcast about my fury animals I would try to get sponsored by Whiskas or Purina ...
Nouchie and Emma my two cats wouldn't mind I suppose, since they already are replics of Whiskas and Felix

Ripping...

Ripping is the process of copying the audio or video from one media form, such as digital (DVD) or CD onto a hard disk.

Long tail marketing strategy

The long tail marketing strategy is about how the media and entertainment industries will succeed not by only pushing popular, mass-market hits but by also mining the "long tail" of interest among a few people in less-popular media and entertainment properties.

Level 2 DRM or digital rights management

Digital rights management (DRM) is the umbrella term referring to any of several technical methods used to handle the description, layering, analysis, valuation, trading and monitoring of the rights held over a digital work. In the widest possible sense, the term refers to any such management
Most internet music stores employ DRM to restrict the usage of music purchased and downloaded online. There are many options for consumers buying music over the internet, in terms of both stores and purchase options. Two examples of music stores and their functionality follow: Itunes, Napster.

level 2 second question

HP is a licence for software

An EULA is a legal contract between the manufacturer and/or the author and the end user of an application. The EULA details how the software can and cannot be used and any restrictions that the manufacturer imposes (e.g., most EULA’s of proprietary software prohibit the user from sharing the software with anyone else).
